OCTOBER 2006 NEWS
Agilent to Raise Asia Workforce by 10% in 3 Years Top U.S. electronics test and equipment maker Agilent Technologies Inc. plans to raise its Asia-Pacific workforce by up to 10 percent over the next three years, mostly in China and India, a senior executive said on Wednesday. It now employed 7,500 in the region, Franklin So, the company's Asia marketing director, told Reuters in an interview. "Asia will grow faster than the rest of the world, not only because the manufacturing is moving here, but we see a lot of research and development also moving over to Asia," So said. The majority of new employees would go to China and India as the company was building factories and research centers there, he added. The Asia-Pacific region contributed a third of the company's worldwide revenue last year, the bulk of that from communications, aerospace defense and digital measurement. Agilent, whose clients range from Motorola Inc. to IBM, aimed to increase its market share in the region from around 45 percent now. "The biggest challenge he faced now was locating talent in China and India", So said. "Competition is keen. Finding enough people is a challenge and bringing them to management level also takes time." Agilent has six subsidiaries
in China with about 1,100 employees.
Krohne Celebrates 30 Years in the UK Flow and level measurement specialist KROHNE Ltd celebrated thirty years of technical innovation and business success in the UK at a special event held at the company's manufacturing plant in Wellingborough. Lady Juliet Townsend, the Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, helped to mark the occasion by switching on the company's latest investment - a new UKAS approved, state-of-the-art, calibration rig. She was joined by directors and other members of staff as she initiated the calibration process on the company's award winning OPTIMASS Coriolis mass flowmeter. KROHNE Ltd has grown to become the KROHNE group's global centre of excellence for the development and support of Coriolis mass flowmeter technology. The company now exports over 90 per cent of the products it manufactures, which it services and supports world-wide. From its UK base, the company also provides sales and technical support for the complete range of flow, pressure, temperature and level measurement instruments manufactured by the KROHNE group's other divisions. KROHNE has made a number of significant technical advances over the 30 years it has been in the UK. Its research and development team created the world's first commercial single straight-tube Coriolis mass flowmeter - a development that paved the way for the launch of the OPTIMASS range of Coriolis Mass flowmeters. The company's achievement in developing the OPTIMASS was recently recognised when it was awarded the coveted Queen's Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2005. The OPTIMASS family of flowmeters has evolved substantially and can now be used across a diverse range of industries including food, pharmaceutical, chemical, oil and gas, steel and mining. Production at KROHNE's state-of-the-art manufacturing and test facility has more than doubled recently to cope with increased global demand for its products. "Over the past thirty years KROHNE has invested to push the boundaries of innovation to develop better, more accurate flow measurement technologies to meet the demands of our growing customer base," said Trevor Fawcett, managing director of KROHNE Ltd. "We are looking forward to repeating this success over the next thirty years." KROHNE provides full pre and post sales support for its customers across the UK, helping them to select the best measurement technology for their particular application and then providing installation and commissioning assistance. Its products are supported in the field by a regionally-based sales force. The KROHNE group has
over 80 years experience in developing and manufacturing flow and level
instrumentation. The company operates worldwide and employs over 2,000
people. For more information visit the company website at www.krohne-mar.com.
