Dubai Hosting 2008 ISO Annual Meeting The
Emirates Standardisation and Metrology Authority (ESMA) announced that
Dubai will host the International Standardisation Organisation (ISO) annual
meeting in 2008. "We were successful in convincing ISO to convene in Dubai in 2008 despite the relatively short history of ESMA," said Walid Bin Falah Al Mansouri, the authority's general manager. He attributed this success to the UAE's expertise in organising events. ESMA
signed a contract with World of Events, a specialised events organiser,
to manage and organise the 31st meeting of ISO from October 12 to 17,
2008, under the direct supervision of ESMA .
Nanolane’s Calibration Capabilities In the framework of its ‘Total Quality’ policy, NANOLANE has launched a program aiming at improving the measurements made with SARFUS 3D at nanoscale. All Calibration Standards provided by NANOLANE are now traceable to PTB Standard and meet the EN ISO/IEC 17025 requirements. The traceability program included two issues:
All calibration standards now available with SARFUS 3D correspond to these requirements. SARFUS 3D is the advanced system commercialized by NANOLANE which allows real-time visualisation and measurement of nanometric structures. The innovative technique based on the use of an optical microscope combines an extreme sensitivity (less than 1nm) to a large field of view (up to a millimetre). The tool enables the optical thickness measurement of transparent layers in the range from 1 to 60nm with repeatability less than 0.3nm. The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (www.ptb.de) is the National lnstitute for Science and Technology and is the highest technical authority of Germany. PTB measures with the highest accuracy and reliability – metrology as the core competence - and meets the requirements for calibration and testing laboratories as defined in the EN ISO/IEC 17025. To ensure worldwide coherence of measures, the PTB cooperates with other national metrology institutes within EUROMET on the regional European level an on the international level within the framework of the Metre Convention. NANOLANE (www.nano-lane.com),
specialized in optical solutions at nanoscale, commercializes an innovative
quantitative technique called Sarfus which extends the analysis possibilities
in the fields of nanotechnologies. The applications include for example
rapid defect visualization of soft lithography, quality control of DNA
biochips, direct visualization and measurement of nanolithography patterns,
thin films and surface treatment studies, dynamic studies of crystallization
and wetting applications, as well as direct behaviour and morphology characterization
of nanotubes and nanowires. NANOLANE is one of the subsidiaries of EOLANE,
(holdings of nine companies) whose main activity is the conception and
the manufacture of professional electronic materials. EOLANE has a sales
turnover of more than 145 M€, including 30% export and employs more
than 1,100 people.

India and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sign Pacts India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed five pacts including an agreement on avoidance of double taxation to further expand their ties in the area of trade and investment. The two sides signed an agreement on the framework for industrial cooperation as well. The agreements were signed here Monday after talks between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the visiting Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on Technical cooperation between the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology and the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories. Two other MOUs were signed for technical cooperation between Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology and on Assistance and mutual cooperation between Emirates Securities and Commodities Authority and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Trade between the two countries which averaged about 180 million US dollars a year in the 1970's stood at 11680 million dollars in 2004-2005. India is the sixth largest exporter to UAE. |
