Tektronix Oscilloscopes Receive 2007 EFY Reader's Choice Award

Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced that Electronics For You (EFY) magazine, one of the leading publications in Asia, has selected Tektronix as the winner of its 2007 EFY Reader's Choice Award in the oscilloscope category. Tektronix has set a milestone as the only winner in the oscilloscope category for the fourth consecutive year since the award was established in 2004.

The EFY awards honor the top products in 26 categories representing the best of 2006 based upon the basis of rankings by EFY readers. This year, five vendors were nominated for the Reader's Choice Award in the oscilloscope category. Tektronix oscilloscopes were selected by EFY readers as the winner for their combination of industry leading specifications, ease-of-use and rich applications.

OSIL Appointed as Guildline’s UK Metrology Distributor

Chamois Metrology Appointed as the Service and Calibration Centre for AMETEK Calibration Instruments

A new strategic alliance has been formed between Chamois Metrology and Ametek Calibration Instruments. Chamois will now provide support, service and a calibration facility for the Ametek primary M and G pressure standards. Totally committed to quality of service Chamois engineers have undergone an extensive training programme at the Ametek Largo, Florida facility and are now fully qualified to support the M and G product range.

Operating out of its Warwickshire facility Chamois will hold stock of service parts for the market leading floating ball type primary standards and the repair service will be underpinned by its highly regarded UKAS accredited laboratory.

European Metrology Institutes Join Together

The National Metrology Institutes (NMI) of Europe, among them the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), are moving closer together in the field of research. On 11 January 2007, the first 26 institutes signed, in a festive ceremony in Berlin, the memorandum of association of "EURAMET e.V.". One of the essential aims of this association will be to develop a joint European Metrology Research Programme. Currently, intense negotiations with the European Commission are under way with regard to substantial research funding.

Materials testing machine manufacturer Lloyd Instruments, an AMETEK company, is delighted to announce that Jürgen Pletsch, Service Manager responsible for the UK and Germany, is the latest member of the group’s large service team to become a UKAS accredited operator for the force calibration of universal materials testing machines to ISO 7500-1. UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) is the UK's sole recognised body for the accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories, and organisations that provide certification in inspection services.

UKAS or equivalent accreditation outside of the UK is becoming an increasingly important requirement for companies that provide local test and calibration facilities. With an international network of distributors offering technical and service support, Lloyd Instruments continues to offer accredited facilities at locations throughout the world.

Lloyd Instruments has been a nationally recognised UKAS calibration laboratory (Accreditation No. 0251) for 15 years offering customers UKAS approved verification and calibration of the force measuring system in tension and compression. These services are available to customers using Lloyd Instruments' test systems and to customers using other manufacturers' test machines (for verification only). The laboratory complies with the requirements of international standard BS EN ISO/IEC 17025. The dedicated team of field service engineers, are themselves fully UKAS accredited and frequently travel anywhere in the world to offer the same high standard of verification and calibration services.

In France, sister company AMETEK S.A.S. holds COFRAC accreditation. COFRAC (Comité Français d'Accréditation) is the official French authorising body. COFRAC certificates are equivalent to those issued by European and international bodies, and are therefore recognised by UKAS.

Calibration accreditation is not limited to Europe. Lloyd Instruments’ service partners in India, Hemshell Services, (a Calibration Division of Hemetek Techno Instruments Pvt. Ltd.) is accredited to ISO 17205 for site force calibration of universal materials testing machines.

Whitehouse Scientific Glass Microsphere Standards get Makeover

Whitehouse Scientific will unveil an attractive and highly practical new look for the company’s microsphere standards at Powtech 2007 (27-29 March 07; Nûrnberg, Germany) as it introduces a new packaging design throughout its extensive product range. The presentation of the standards has been completely updated with the introduction of new, more durable plastic bottles, individually held in foam and supplied in a clear plastic display case. At the associated Partec conference Dr Graham Rideal, managing director of Whitehouse Scientific, will also present a paper on the use of Whitehouse standards for image analysis.

Whitehouse Scientific has been producing glass microspheres for calibration for 24 years. The company is the highest ranking European certification laboratory for primary methods of particle size analysis and the world’s leading manufacturer of single-shot glass microsphere standards. The reference standards, nearly all of which are NIST traceable, range in size from 0.1 µm to 5.0 mm and are available as single size or broad distributions. Whitehouse also offers a unique calibration procedure for NIST-traceable measurement of filter apertures.

AMETEK Forms Ultra Precision Technologies Division

AMETEK Inc. has formed a new Ultra Precision Technologies Division that brings together its Taylor Hobson Division with two more recently acquired businesses: Solartron Metrology and Precitech.

"All three businesses -- Taylor Hobson, Solartron Metrology and Precitech -- have strong organizations, enjoy excellent industry reputations and serve a growing global customer base," notes Bruce Wilson, Vice President and General Manager of AMETEK Ultra Precision Technologies.
