Praxair to Construct Specialty Gases Centre in Nanjing, China Praxair China, a provider of industrial gases and part of Praxair Inc has announced that it will build a new specialty gases facility in the Nanjing Science Park, Nanjing, China, to increase its presence in China's growing specialty gas markets. The facility will be able to produce complex mixtures for research laboratories and emission testing centres being developed in China, with the addition of high-purity gases, calibration gases and ultra-high-purity gases for the electronics segment. The facility, scheduled to start up in August 2008, will incorporate a specialty gases laboratory, calibration equipment and gas analysers, and high purity cylinder filling operations. It will serve markets such as the petrochemical, automobile, lighting, and pollution control industries along with various laboratories and research centres. The company said the facility will improve its ability to develop new applications technologies for Chinese customers. It will also process electronics-grade gases and mixtures to serve the semiconductor industry, in a second phase. For more company information

Test & Measurement 2007 Conference & Exhibition The National Laboratory Association (NLA) is hosting the Test & Measurement 2007 Conference and Exhibition at Emperors Palace Convention Centre, Johannesburg, from 19-21 November 2007. The theme of the conference is Measurement Traceability - Challenges in the 21st century. The key to good measurements, both physical and analytical, is the degree to which the accuracy of the measurement has been transferred from a standard of higher accuracy ultimately to one, or a combination, of the base SI units. In most physical metrology disciplines the traceability chain is well defined. However, in the field of analytical measurements this is not always the case. This is one of the issues which will be highlighted at the conference. Also to be covered are the challenges facing well established national metrology institutes, such as the National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA), compared with those facing younger national metrology institutes in SADC and Africa. There have been a substantial number of contributions from outside of South Africa, including submissions from BIPM, NIST and prominent suppliers. The attendance of these experts will provide local members of the community an opportunity to learn from their international counterparts. The Test & Measurement Exhibition that runs alongside the conference will provide those involved in the world of laboratories an opportunity to obtain a technology update. There are still opportunities for suppliers to exhibit and since attendance at the exhibition is independent of the conference, there is added value both for suppliers as well as those wishing only to attend the exhibition. There is a substantial early bird discount for registering and paying by the end of September. TESEQ - New EMC Test Facility has UKAS Approval for On-Site Testing In a single new facility in Wokingham, UK, TESEQ (formerly Schaffner Test Systems) has consolidated all of its EMC calibration and repair services. The company has installed a new screened room antenna calibration facility and carried out a full refurbishment of the original one. TESEQ no longer use an OATS site for antenna calibration, a change in methodology made possible by having over 20 years of experience and historic test data. Customers will find indoor testing more convenient and efficient as it offers all-weather operation, reducing test times and cost, says the company. TESEQ has been awarded UKAS approval for both testing at its own facility and also for on-site conducted immunity calibrations carried out at customers own premises. This is an increasingly popular service with customers needing to increase equipment availability, says the company Paul Dixon, managing director, TESEQ, said: "Our expanded test facility now addresses all the needs of professional EMC test engineers. As the acknowledged worldwide EMC experts, both in test equipment design and manufacture and as a provider of EMC test services, Teseq offers its customers a number of advantages over using conventional "stand alone" test facilities." System designers and OEM manufacturers can benefit from working with TESEQ who can now provide the widest offering of traceable and UKAS test parameters for EMC available in the UK, calibration of harmonics and flicker in line with the requirements of EN61000-3-2 & -3 etc, competitive pricing and fast turnaround times. The company also offers a full repair and calibration service to support Schaffner/TESEQ test equipment as well as other manufacturers' EMC test equipment, says the company. UK’s Gauge and Tool Maker’s Association Roadshow The UK's Gauge and Tool Makers' Association will be holding a 'Make Measurement Matter' metrology roadshow at RAF Cosford near Telford, UK, on November 14 The 'Make Measurement Matters' format provides a novel opportunity for metrology professionals to discuss their measurement requirements with specialists from 30 of the UK's premier metrology suppliers. They will be gathered together under one roof and for one day only and visitors can view the latest technical developments in products and applications. Gauge and Tool Makers' Association (GTMA)'s CEO, Julia Moore, said: 'Modern manufacturing makes ever-increasing demands on the measurement capabilities of companies at all stages in the supply chain. From the simplest gauges to the most complex electronic devices - measurement really does matter'. She said: 'This year's venue naturally reminds us of the vital role that measurement plays in manufacturing for the aerospace sector - which is why metrology is so strongly featured in the GTMA's 'Executive Briefing for the Aerospace industry''. Moore continued: 'However, metrology is equally critical throughout the high-tech manufacturing arena, and, as many companies already appreciate, many of the problems experienced in manufacturing prove to be issues relating to measurement. The breadth of experience and range of products demonstrated at the roadshow will provide the solutions to many of these issues faced by manufacturing today.' The event has been designed to provide both exhibitors and visitors with extensive opportunities to network with others in the industry, while also keeping abreast of the latest developments in the field. In addition to the exhibition there will also be a free seminar programme, yet to be finalised, including a presentation by Jane Beaumont, director of Accreditation, UKAS, responsible for the operation and development of assessment and accreditation services. Visitors will also have the opportunity of experiencing a Concorde simulator ride. For more information visit GTMA at http://www.gtma.co.uk. |
