Through an arrangement with the NIST Analytical Chemistry Division (ACD), NVLAP is now offering accreditation for Certifiers of Spectrophotometric Filter NIST Traceable Reference Materials (NTRMs) under the Chemical Calibration field of our Calibration Laboratories Accreditation Program. NIST Special Publication SP 260-140: Technical Specifications for Certification of Spectrophotometric NTRMs, describes an NTRM as "a commercially produced reference material with a well-defined traceability linkage to existing NIST chemical measurement standards." Those organizations that have shown interest in this program by participation in previous workshops have already been sent application packages. Other interested parties may request an application package by contacting NVLAP.

A new corporate identity program for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) was introduced to members of the Institute's Board of Directors during a celebration on March 22, 2000.

Dr. Mark W. Hurwitz, ANSI President and CEO, stated "As we enter a new century - one characterized by an explosion in information dissemination, rapidly converging technologies and globalization - ANSI recognized the need to update its 'look.' Staff reviewed various aspects of our past corporate identity programs to evaluate the degree to which various elements of our branding activities are recognized; we determined that the characters "A - N - S - I" and the color scheme used since 1989 were essential elements to carry forward.

The new logo reflects the impact of the Institute and our leadership in the representation of U.S. standards activities worldwide. The circular blue symbol represents both forward motion and ANSI's role in the global society. This forward motion is continued in the treatment of the logotype. Further, the solid weight of the characters "ANSI" reflects the strength of an organization that has served the U.S. standards and conformity assessment community for more than eight decades. The logo has been designed so that it may be used independently (as shown above) or with the name "American National Standards Institute." A plan is in place to transition from the previous to the new logo.

For additional information, please contact Stacy M. Leistner, director of communication and public relations (tel: 212.642.4931; e-mail: sleistne@ansi.org).
