Tektronix Announces Strong Sales And Earnings For The Second Quarter Of Its Fiscal Year BEAVERTON, Ore., December 14, 2000 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK) today reported sales of $325.1 million and net income of $36.7 million, or $0.38 per share, for the second quarter of fiscal year 2001. This represents a 28% increase over sales of $253.3 million, and a 124% increase over earnings of $0.17 per share, for the measurement segment in the same period a year ago. "Our people delivered strong results across the board," said Rick Wills, Tektronix president and CEO. "We saw continued strength in our strategic markets - communications, computing and Internet enabled technologies - with especially strong demand, across product lines, for communications infrastructure development and deployment. In fact, protocol and network monitoring test equipment grew over 40% and optical design and test products grew nearly 200% compared to last year. "We continue to make significant strides in broadening our portfolio in these key markets - with strong market acceptance of new products in optical test, advanced digital design, communications design, network monitoring, and video quality of service," said Wills. "We are also very pleased with the acquisition of the Digianswer protocol analyzer announced earlier in the quarter, which targets telecommunications, computing and consumer products designers using Bluetooth technology." For the third quarter of fiscal 2001 ending February 24, 2001, Tektronix expects to achieve revenue growth in the range of 15 to 17% over the same period a year ago. Operating margins for the third quarter of fiscal 2001 are expected to be in the 13 to 14% range. For the full fiscal year 2001, ending May 26, 2001, the company expects revenue growth of approximately 20% over the measurement business segment results in fiscal 2000 and expects operating margins to be approximately 14%.
Honeywell Expects Ongoing 4th-Quarter EPS To Range From $0.70 To $0.74; Company Expects To Incur $375 Million-To-$425 Million Fourth-Quarter Charge MORRIS TOWNSHIP, New Jersey, December 14, 2000 – Honeywell [NYSE: HON] said it expects ongoing fourth-quarter earnings per share (EPS) to range from $0.70 to $0.74. The fourth-quarter ongoing EPS estimate excludes an expected $375 million-to-$425 million (pre-tax) in charges related primarily to asset impairments and environmental liabilities. Honeywell said it made decisions in the fourth quarter, following its agreement on October 22nd to be acquired by GE, to reconsider certain licensing and planned portfolio actions that resulted in a reduction of anticipated fourth-quarter earnings. The decisions were based on a review of pooling of interest limitations, strategic interests of the combined company and business reviews conducted with GE. Earnings are expected to be affected negatively by the performance of, and customer uncertainty related to, business units the company was in the process of divesting. These planned divestitures, which were recently cancelled by Honeywell, include Friction Materials, Automotive Consumer Products Group, U.S. Security Monitoring and Pharmaceutical Fine Chemicals. Additionally, earnings performance is expected to be affected by sharply lower income in the company’s 50%-owned UOP joint venture. UOP is experiencing weaker-than-expected sales of process technology products and services to refinery and petrochemical customers during a traditionally strong quarter for the venture. Continued high energy and raw material costs are also expected to affect income growth in the company’s Performance Polymers & Chemicals businesses. Fourth-quarter sales are expected to grow by about 3%. Growth is being driven by Aerospace, Fire & Security, Electronic Materials, Turbochargers and Sensing & Control Products. Sales growth is expected to be partially offset by lower sales in Truck Brakes, Industrial Automation, Polymers, Friction Materials and Consumer Products. "While our fourth-quarter earnings will be below expectations, based on our business reviews with GE, we are confident that the combination of our two companies will enhance the value of our businesses and lead to greater growth and shareowner value creation going forward," said Michael R. Bonsignore, Honeywell’s Chairman & CEO.
New CD-ROM gives ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 industry sector breakdowns country-by-country ISO (International Organization for Standardization) has just released a new CD-ROM that for the first time makes available industry sector breakdowns of ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 certifications worldwide on a country-by-country basis. This is also the first time that the ISO Survey of ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 Certificates is made available as an electronic product. The CD-ROM can be purchased from ISO’s national member institutes (a full list is posted on ISO’s Web site: www.iso.ch) or from ISO Central Secretariat: price, CHF 44.- plus postage. Up to now, The ISO Survey has given worldwide, regional and national totals of certifications to ISO’s quality (ISO 9000) and environmental (ISO 14000) management system standards. The ninth cycle, which gives the worldwide certification picture up to the end of 1999, also includes worldwide industry sector breakdowns for ISO 9000 and ISO 14000. It is available free as a paper document and downloadable from the ISO Web site. In response to frequent requests for ever more detailed information on the spread of its management system standards, ISO now goes a step further in providing industry sector breakdowns country-by-country. Doing so in hard copy would have produced an unwieldy document, hence the CD-ROM, which is compatible with Windows, Macintosh and UNIX operating systems. The industry breakdowns are according to the 39 sectors of activity making up the EAC (European Accreditation of Conformity) classification code used by many accreditation and certification bodies. The CD-ROM also includes all the information presently given in the paper version, including the table of national adoptions of ISO 9000 and ISO 14000, but in a more accessible form.
