Hybrid Ceramic Ball Bearings

Hoffer Flow Controls, Inc. introduces "new" hybrid ceramic ball bearings into their turbine flowmeter design.

The traditional bearing types for clear liquid and gas flow measurement in a turbine flow meter include ball bearings, journal, and jewel. Journal and jewel bearing types provide excellent durability under most industrial applications. However, their trade-off is a loss in meter performance at the low end of the meter's rated capacity.

Ball bearings provide the best performance for most industrial applications. Traditional steel bearings do have their limitations in terms of gall resistance and abrasive wear. The "new" hybrid ceramic ball bearings are very dimensionally stable and do not go through any phase changes during operations. The fatigue life of a ceramic ball bearing vastly exceeds that of the best steal bearings, thus, the cost of ownership over time is substantially improved.
