Guildline Instruments Introduces the automatoR

Guildline Instruments is pleased to announce the release of the automatoR, an Electronically Controlled Resistance Box. Available in three models, this versatile device allows a cost-effective and programmable solution to traditional decade boxes and can be used wherever accurate resistance values are required.

Using a patented quasi-binary build-up scheme, the automatoR can output "real" resistance values (not synthesized) from 0 to 24M with 0.1 of resolution. Base accuracy starts at 0.1% with options and models available for improved accuracies, range and resolution.

A RS232 serial port allows the unit to be fully automated for either normal operation or to automate calibration. The RS232 allows the unit to be remotely controlled from a safe or convenient location if required.

The automatoR is straightforward and easy to use. Desired values can be entered using the calculator style keypad or scrolled via the rotary knob. The unit allows 14 values for fast save and recall capability. Additionally, three translation tables can be internally saved. Translation Tables are very useful in simulating resistive transducers such as a platinum resistance thermometer (PRT), strain gauges or any transducer that converts a physical phenomenon (such as a mechanical force or conductivity) into an output resistance value. When simulating 100 PRTs, users only need to remember temperatures rather than complex resistance values.

The automatoR can be calibrated to include lead resistance in the output, making it effectively a direct reading resistance box. For high accuracy requirements, Guildline accessories are available to provide a four-terminal connection at the base of the instrument. Besides precision metrology applications, contract manufacturers can automate the selection of S.O.T. resistors and engineers can use it to characterize/fine tune non-linear circuits.
